The new National Guard recruitment video is beyond absurd. Kid Rock sings a song about being a warrior while the video switches between soldiers getting soccer balls for Iraqi children they almost run over and footage of Dale Earnhardt Jr. racing. It’s completely inexplicable. My favorite line:

So don’t tell me who’s wrong and right
When liberty starts slipping away
And if you ain’t gonna fight
Get out of the way

‘Cause freedom ain’t so free
When you breathe red, white and blue
I’m giving all of myself
How ‘bout you?

Kid Rock is not in the National Guard, and he has been quoted saying that entertainers should not talk about politics.

Some Choice lines from that interview:

“I truly believe that people like myself, who are in a position of entertainers in the limelight, should keep their mouth shut on politics,”

“I think celebrity endorsements hurt politicians. As soon as somebody comes out for a politician, especially in Hollywood, when they all go, ‘I’m voting for this guy!’ – I go, ‘That’s not who I’m voting for!’ ”

“As soon as Oprah Winfrey pops up and goes ‘Ha-la-la-la-la,’ I’m like, ‘I love Barack Obama. I hate Oprah Winfrey.’ ”

“I don’t hate her. I just don’t believe in her, so I don’t want any part of any of that.”

Well said Mr. Rock, well said.
